Gordon B. Hinckley

A Lifetime of Temple Construction
By the time he had become President of the church, Gordon B. Hinckley had dedicated 23 of the church’s 47 temples and had rededicated four of the remaining 24. While president of the church, President Hinckley announced the program of building smaller more economical temples, as well as new strategies for larger temples to reduce the cost of construction and operation, leading him to decide issue a call for 32 new temples in 2 short years to make 100 by the end of the century. President Hinckley presided at the dedication of 65 additional temples and rededicated 5, 4 of which he had dedicated originally. In all, President Hinckley presided at the dedication or rededication of 93 different temples.
